Rob Hayles inaugurates cycling hub

3-times Olympic champion & double world track cycling hero Rob Hayles has recently inaugurated a cycling hub at Watford Hospital.

The hospital presently hosts a shower & changing unit combo, situated beside bike storage spot, tyre pump & a bike repairing stand.

The project is a part of NHS trust’s mission of sustainability and ensuring encouragement among patients, nurses, doctors, visitors, midwives & other hospital staffs to take to cycling.  The newly launched facilities received a grant of 31,000 pounds from the Council of Hertfordshire County & around 5000 pounds from the public donations into the trust’s charity fund.

The grant is a part of Hertfordshire’s BigHertsBigIdeas scheme & has been awarded via the Local Fund on Sustainable Transport. The Cycle Hub at Watford Hospital have extended support and advice for this project.

“The cycling hub would be a fantastic resource for the riders. I am very passionate when it comes to cycling, personally & professionally & if these facilities here can encourage people to take to riding leaving the cars- that would be really amazing for everybody”, stated Hayles while asked to speak about the latest launch.

“We wish to make riding as easy and desirable for all our nurses, doctors, support staffs, visitors and patients as possible- as a part of efforts to ensure more sustainable facilities & services”, remarked Samantha Jones, the CEO of the Trust. “The newly launched cycling hub would be the absolute route to this.”

“Hertfordshire features a number of busy streets outside of the capital city & we are very much keen to inspire people towards more sustainable transport methods whenever & wherever possible. It’s a fantastic project that shows how well BigHertsBigIdeas funding could be utilized with innovation to better sustainable transport & local fiscal growth”, added in Terry Douris, the County councilor.
